into an industrial hub.

Starting from a struggling Edo Cement plant in 2008, BUA Group revitalized the facility, transforming it into one of Africa’s most advanced cement production facilities. With over $1 billion invested, the company has cemented its position as Nigeria’s second-largest cement producer.

In 2019, BUA Cement merged with its subsidiaries—Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) and Obu Cement Company—streamlining operations and boosting its financial performance. Listed on the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX) in January 2020, BUA Cement has since achieved remarkable revenue growth, surpassing N300 billion, driven by robust demand in Nigeria’s construction sector.

Beyond financial success, BUA Cement has played a pivotal role in Edo State’s development. The company’s contributions extend beyond corporate earnings, with significant investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and local entrepreneurship. Over 2,000 direct jobs and countless indirect opportunities have been created, transforming Okpella into a thriving community.

Despite challenges, including legal disputes over ownership and mining leases, BUA Cement has fostered strong partnerships with the Edo State Government. The 2019 Terms of Settlement marked a turning point, ensuring a future of growth and collaboration.

Looking ahead, BUA Cement aims to expand production capacity to 20 million metric tonnes per annum by 2027. Environmental sustainability remains a top priority, with investments in cleaner energy and advanced technologies.

As Rabiu emphasizes, BUA Cement is more than just a business; it’s a partner in Edo State’s growth, committed to building a future where industry and community thrive together.
