Transforming Nutrition: FG’s Bold New Plan Targets Every Local Government Area

During a meeting with a high-level delegation from the World Bank Group at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday, Shettima introduced the comprehensive N-774 Initiative, which builds on the successes of the Accelerating Nutrition Results in Nigeria (ANRiN) project.

He expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s support of various nutrition programs in Nigeria, noting that the N-774 initiative is particularly timely as the ANRiN project comes to a close.

“The administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is spearheading a transformative approach to nutrition programs through locally-driven solutions. The N-774 Initiative reflects our commitment to community-led development and sustainable nutrition outcomes,” he stated.

The Vice President described the N-774 Initiative as a localized, community-focused solution designed to meet the specific needs of each LGA, aiming to deliver nutrition interventions directly to communities while fostering local ownership and ensuring sustainability.

“Malnutrition is a problem that requires a Nigerian solution, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is fully supportive of this initiative,” he added.

He explained that the project aligns nutrition goals with sectors such as education, agriculture, health, and social protection.

Regarding the implementation strategy, Senator Shettima highlighted the importance of harnessing existing political will to improve the country’s negative nutrition indicators.

“The Renewed Hope Administration is committed to achieving swift and impactful results through this innovative approach to nutrition intervention,” he said, adding that sustained collaboration between federal and state governments, along with international partners, will likely lead to significant improvements in community health outcomes, as stated by his spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha.

The World Bank Country Director, Ndiame Diop, expressed gratitude to the Vice President for his leadership in fostering multi-stakeholder collaboration on nutrition issues in public discussions. He also noted the significance of ongoing government funding for nutrition and announced that the bank has allocated $50 million under the ANRiN 2.0 program as a crisis response measure.
