Two People Got Arrested In Connection With Burning Of Cross River Village

The suspects, believed to be the ringleaders of the arson attack, were apprehended in Obubra LGA. Initially detained in Ikom LGA for a brief period, they were subsequently transferred to the state police headquarters in Calabar on Friday, March 15, for further questioning.

Confirming the arrests and detentions, the divisional police officer in Ikom, Teryima Anthony, stated that additional suspects are expected to be apprehended in connection with the incident.

The arson attack, reportedly stemming from a long-standing communal dispute dating back to 1993 between the people of Ofunokpan in the Mbembe tribe of Obubra LGA and the Nta community in Ikom LGA, reignited tensions in the area.
