Tyler Perry Reveals Why He Will Never Get Married: ‘I’m Good Just Being Free

American filmmaker and entertainment mogul Tyler Perry has revealed that he has no plans to get married, saying his concerns about the financial consequences of divorce have influenced his decision.

According to reports, Perry made the revelation while appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show as he promoted his latest movie, Why Did I Get Married Again?, the newest instalment in his popular marriage-themed franchise.

The 57-year-old actor and filmmaker explained that his decision was influenced by observing people around him who experienced significant financial losses following divorce.

“I’m never going to get married. It’s not about the marriage but the divorce pandemic happening. Everybody that I know that did well and went broke, it was because of a divorce. So I’m good just being free,” Perry said.

Perry has previously kept details of his personal relationships largely private. He has one son, Aman, with his former partner, Gelila Bekele, and has maintained that marriage is not something he currently desires.

His latest comments come as he promotes Why Did I Get Married Again?, a film that reunites characters from his earlier movies while exploring relationships, marriage and the challenges faced by couples.

Perry’s remarks have generated discussions, particularly because of the contrast between his decision to remain unmarried and the strong focus on marriage and relationships in many of his films.

For the entertainment mogul, however, his observations about the financial impact of divorce have reinforced his preference for remaining single and enjoying what he describes as the freedom that comes with staying unmarried.
