Group Managing Director (GMD) Mr. Oliver Alawuba made this announcement during a send-off dinner in Abuja honoring the bank’s retired non-executive directors on Wednesday night. He noted that UBA would also broaden its operations across the African continent in the coming year.

According to the GMD, UBA currently employs over 25,000 staff and serves more than 45 million customers across 24 countries.

“Our chairman recently visited Saudi Arabia and announced the bank’s plans to establish a presence there next year. We also intend to launch more subsidiaries across Africa, ensuring the bank continues to grow stronger,” he stated.

Mr. Alawuba expressed confidence in UBA’s commitment to building a sustainable institution, highlighting that the bank’s achievements are a collective effort. He took the opportunity to thank the retirees for their contributions to the bank’s success.

In his remarks, UBA Chairman Mr. Tony Elumelu praised the retired directors and their families for their dedication and sacrifices.

“At UBA, we see ourselves as more than just a bank; we are a family. These individuals have shown selflessness, exceptional dedication, and have been pivotal to our successes in Nigeria, Africa, and globally. We are profoundly grateful to their families for the support they provided,” Elumelu stated.

Retiree Kayode Fashola reflected on his journey at UBA, expressing gratitude to Elumelu for placing his trust in him for key positions despite their initial unfamiliarity.

“To work with Elumelu, you must be committed, dedicated, and skilled, as well as loyal. He has a unique ability to place significant responsibilities in the hands of individuals he doesn’t know well. I was a stranger when he appointed me as the Chairman of the General Purpose Committee, and during my four years in that role, he never once interfered with my work,” Fashola recalled.

The retired directors honored included Mrs. Onari Duke, Dr. Kayode Fashola, Mrs. Foluke Abdulrazaq, and Ambassador Joe Keshi.
