According to Ireporter Online, Lagos State House of Assembly member Desmond Elliot has apologised to the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, following a disagreement linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Surulere Constituency I seat.

In a video circulating on social media, Elliot was seen kneeling and prostrating before Gbajabiamila as he pleaded for forgiveness over his conduct during the political disagreement.

The lawmaker expressed deep regret, saying he had no excuse for his actions and hoped to conduct himself better in the future.

“I’m sorry. I have no excuse. I have nothing other than to say I’m deeply sorry, and I am hoping to be cultured in the future,” Elliot said while seeking forgiveness.

Gbajabiamila, in response, asked Elliot to stand up after the lawmaker prostrated before him.

The apology followed a disagreement that emerged after the APC primary election for the Surulere Constituency I seat held in May. Elliot had withdrawn from the exercise, alleging that his supporters were subjected to intimidation and political pressure during the process.

He subsequently rejected the outcome of the primary and indicated his intention to challenge the process through the party’s internal appeal mechanism.

However, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare emerged as the winner of the APC ticket, polling 11,385 votes, while Elliot received 270 votes.

Odunuga-Bakare was widely believed to have enjoyed the support of Gbajabiamila, although the political developments that followed the primary eventually led to Elliot’s public apology and reconciliation move.
