What Akeredolu Did To An Ibo Lady In Ondo

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has designated Hon Eucharia Nwamara, an Ibo grassroots politician in Ondo state, as the vice chairman of the Odigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

Nwamara is part of the caretaker committee appointed for the newly created 33 LCDAs, which have received screening and clearance from the state House of Assembly.

The appointment of Nwamara as the chairman of the Odigbo LCDA had sparked protests among residents, who argued that it was inappropriate for a non-Yoruba individual to hold the position of the pioneer chairman.

Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state has criticized the screening and approval process of the caretaker committees, asserting that it contravenes the 1999 constitution and the local government system, establishment, and administration, and other auxiliary matters law of Ondo state 2006.

Leye Igbabo, the director of media and publicity for the Ondo PDP, stated in a press release that the screening of the caretaker committees is null and void. He argued that the appointments were an attempt to obstruct the local government elections scheduled for February 17, 2024, insinuating that the Ondo APC’s motivation is to navigate around the fact that they are not in a position for a favorable outcome at the polls.

He said: “The Ondo state House of Assembly should not make itself a willing agent in the hands of those who are hell-bent on driving the state towards a huge rock.

“This public show of shame must stop for once because the consequences of damaging the very constitution that binds us together are better left unimagined.”
