What Govt Has Seen Is Not Even 25%” — Maina Accuses Malami Of Massive Theft

According to Ireporter Online, former Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, has accused a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, of involvement in large-scale theft of public funds.

Maina made the allegations while speaking in a video that has circulated widely online, in which he called for a comprehensive investigation into Malami’s activities during his time in office. He claimed that the extent of the alleged financial misconduct linked to the former justice minister was far greater than what authorities have so far uncovered.

Speaking on asset recovery and alleged corruption within government circles, Maina asserted that only a fraction of the funds allegedly misappropriated had been identified. He maintained that his experience in tracking and recovering public funds gave him insight into the scale of the alleged losses, adding that this expertise had made him a target in the past.

Maina further alleged that additional recoverable assets were connected to Malami, questioning the value of properties reportedly under investigation and suggesting that more assets remained undiscovered. He insisted that significant sums could still be recovered if a thorough probe was conducted.

Despite his allegations, Maina expressed support for the current government’s accountability drive, stating that efforts toward transparency, accountability and adherence to the rule of law were necessary and commendable. He contrasted the present administration with previous ones, arguing that the alleged misconduct occurred under past leadership and expressing confidence that such actions would not be tolerated now.

The former task team chairman also recounted incidents involving alleged attempts to compel his return to Nigeria while he was abroad, referencing pressure he claimed was exerted through family members and senior government figures. He further alleged that substantial asset recoveries linked to anti-graft investigations under previous leadership were improperly handled, claiming that some recovered properties were allegedly shared among senior officials, leading to internal disputes.

Maina’s claims have added to ongoing public debate over asset recovery, transparency, and accountability within Nigeria’s anti-corruption framework.
