What You Never Knew About The Political Rivalry Between Wike And Amaechi
Nyesom Wike, Minister of the FCT and former Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi have been engaged in a prolonged struggle for control of the political structure in Rivers State for nearly a decade.
Mr. Wike previously served as the chief of staff to Mr. Amaechi during the latter’s tenure as governor, but their political paths diverged in 2014 when Amaechi left the PDP for the APC.

Since then, Amaechi has been less involved in APC activities at the national level, facing allegations of working against the party in Rivers State.
Meanwhile, Mr. Wike, who remained in the PDP, played a notable role in the success of the APC in the 2023 presidential election in Rivers State, leading to his appointment as FCT minister by President Tinubu.

This appointment led to protests within the pro-Amaechi camp, with concerns about the lack of APC representation from Rivers State at various governance levels. Mr. Cole, a member of the APC, expressed these concerns during a visit to the party’s national secretariat.
The recent restructuring of the APC leadership in Rivers State, with a caretaker committee that includes individuals linked to both Amaechi and Wike, has heightened speculation about a possible defection of the FCT minister.
This development occurs amidst the ongoing power struggle between Wike and his political successor, Governor Fubara, adding to the speculation surrounding a potential shift in party allegiance by the FCT minister.
