White House – US Does Not Want To See Middle East Crisis ‘Escalate’
In response to Iran’s unprecedented direct assault on Israeli territory, the White House has voiced its commitment to preventing further escalation in the Middle East. John Kirby, spokesperson for the White House National Security Council, reiterated this stance during an interview on NBC’s “Meet the Press” on Sunday……read also BREAKING: White House Reveals Details Of President Biden’s Engagement With President Tinubu At G20 Summit
Kirby emphasized that the United States is not seeking a broader conflict with Iran and is determined to avoid any further escalation of tensions in the region. His remarks followed Iran’s massive missile and drone attack on Israel, which was seen as retaliation for an Israeli strike on Tehran’s consulate in Damascus earlier in the month.
The attack, characterized by over 300 drones and missiles aimed at Israel, raised concerns about the possibility of a wider conflict. Despite causing 12 injuries, the Israeli army reported that the majority of incoming drones and missiles were intercepted before reaching Israeli territory, thanks to assistance from the United States, Jordan, Britain, and other allies.
President Joe Biden reiterated America’s unwavering support for Israel but advised against a military response, urging restraint. Axios reported that Biden directly communicated to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu his opposition to an Israeli counterattack, advising a measured approach.
Meanwhile, Kirby underscored the United States’ vigilance against potential threats to American troops stationed in the region. He emphasized that the U.S. had clearly communicated its response plan to all parties involved, including Iran, and remains prepared to address any threats to its personnel seriously.
