Why I Stopped Going To Church Services – Funke Akindele Opens Up
According to Ireporter Online, Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has disclosed that she no longer physically attends Sunday church services, citing persistent media attention as a major reason for her decision.
In a video shared via her Snapchat account on Sunday, the actress was seen preparing breakfast for her children and getting them ready for church when she addressed questions about her absence from in-person worship. She stated that she now prefers to participate in services online, explaining that attending church physically often attracts unwanted attention.
“Do not ask if I am going to church. I am not going to church. Anytime I go to church, it is me that they take picture of. I will join online,” she said.
Akindele, who is reportedly associated with the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), suggested that constant filming and photographing by members of the public and media have made it difficult for her to worship comfortably and privately.
Her remarks have since sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms, with some users supporting her decision and emphasizing the need for privacy for public figures, while others argued that physical church attendance remains important for fellowship and spiritual growth.
Some commenters noted that celebrities should be allowed to worship without being recorded, while others maintained that online church services cannot fully replace in-person gatherings.
