Wike Looked Healthier, Happier When We Worked Together” — Peter Obi

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has spoken about his relationship with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing him as a good friend despite their political differences and Wike’s criticism of his 2027 presidential ambition.

According to reports, Obi recalled the period between 2011 and 2014 when he served as governor of Anambra State while Wike was Minister of State for Education. During that period, Wike visited Anambra State to inspect and commission education projects implemented by the Obi administration, including renovated secondary schools.

Speaking during an online interview, Obi said Wike remained a friend and reflected on his appearance and disposition during the period they worked together.

“Nyesom Wike still remains a very good friend of mine. He looked healthier when we were working together. When Wike and I were together, he was a much happier person and was enjoying himself,” Obi said.

Obi also dismissed a claim that Wike had suggested he would become a target if Obi eventually became president, saying his political ambition was not driven by a desire to pursue individuals.

“Someone even told me that Wike said if I became president, he would be the first person I would come after. But I’m not campaigning to become president to start pursuing people. I want to go into office to focus on tomorrow, not chase people around,” he stated.

The former Anambra governor further maintained that he had no personal issue with the FCT minister, reiterating that Wike remained his friend.

“But let me assure you, I don’t have anything against Mr Wike. He remains a friend and everything. Sometimes, you can have too much money and everything, but you don’t have happiness,” Obi added.
