King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom, who became the world’s youngest reigning monarch after ascending the throne at the age of three, has died at 34.

The death of the monarch was confirmed by the Prime Minister of the Tooro Kingdom on Thursday night, bringing an end to a remarkable reign that lasted more than three decades.

According to Ireporter Online, King Oyo became the Omukama, or King, of Tooro in 1995 following the death of his father. His accession at such a young age attracted widespread international attention and made him one of the youngest monarchs in modern history.

Although he inherited the throne as a toddler, King Oyo remained the cultural and traditional head of the Tooro Kingdom as he grew older. Over the years, he gradually assumed greater responsibilities and became a prominent figure in Uganda’s traditional and cultural affairs.

His reign spanned more than 30 years, during which he continued to play an important role in preserving the identity, traditions and cultural heritage of the Tooro people.

At the time of his death, King Oyo had not officially married. His extraordinary journey from a three-year-old child monarch to an adult traditional ruler remained one of the defining features of his life and reign.

The cause of death had not been made public as of the time of the announcement.

His passing has prompted attention and expected tributes across Uganda, particularly among members of the Tooro Kingdom, where he served as monarch for more than three decades.
