Dangote’s Daughter Reveals Why She And Her Sisters Keep A Low Profile

Halima Dangote, daughter of Nigerian billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote, has explained why she and her sisters, Mariya and Fatima, have largely maintained a private lifestyle despite growing up in one of Nigeria’s most prominent business families.

According to reports, Halima made the disclosure during an interview with Bloomberg’s Next Africa special, where she spoke about the sisters’ approach to privacy, public attention and their professional responsibilities within the Dangote Group.

She explained that the three sisters have preferred to keep their personal lives away from public scrutiny and allow their professional accomplishments to speak for them.

According to Halima, the sisters have never been particularly interested in publicly displaying their wealth, possessions or daily activities, especially on social media.

She noted that their relatively low public profile previously made it easier for them to maintain their privacy. However, their increasing responsibilities within the Dangote Group have made it more difficult to remain unknown.

Halima said the sisters would rather be assessed based on their work and achievements than on their family name or financial background.

“Everyone has his own job. We are more… we’re quiet in the sense that we don’t say who we are,” she said.

The business executive acknowledged that increased recognition has come with their growing roles within the family’s business empire.

“It was easier when we were not recognised; you know, our results speak for themselves,” she added.

Halima also explained that unlike some people who are comfortable with social media and public attention, she and her sisters are not particularly expressive about their possessions or personal activities.

She pointed to business performance indicators, including sales, profits, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), and overall growth, as measures of the sisters’ contributions to the group.

“I think, like Fatima and Mariya said, the results are just the ones speaking for themselves,” she said, adding that the sisters occupy key positions within the business and believe that “numbers don’t lie.”

Halima further suggested that one of the three sisters could eventually take on a leadership role within the family’s business structure, indicating that she had been observing their individual capabilities and potential.
