Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has defended his daughter, Adaeze Oputa, following reactions to her engagement to a female partner.

According to reports, Charly Boy addressed the issue in a post on his Instagram page, where he said his daughter is 50 years old and should be allowed to make decisions about her personal life as an adult.

The entertainer said that while he could offer advice and express his views as a father, he did not believe he had the right to control the choices of another adult.

Adaeze recently announced her engagement to her female partner on social media, sharing photographs from the occasion and confirming that they had become engaged.

Charly Boy also disclosed that his daughter is a mother of five and has a great-grandchild, stressing that she would remain his daughter regardless of the decisions she makes in her personal life.

Reflecting on her previous marriage, the veteran entertainer said Adaeze went through difficult experiences in the relationship before eventually leaving it and moving on with her life.

“How you wan tell 50-year-old woman how to live her life? At that age, she don already live enough life to know herself,” he said.

“As a father, I fit advise. I fit talk my mind. But I no get remote control for another adult’s life.”

Charly Boy added that Adaeze’s role as his daughter would not change because of her personal decisions.

“She gave me five grandchildren and a great-grandson and for that and many other reasons, she will always be my daughter,” he said.

He further explained that his own father had been unable to prevent him from becoming the person he wanted to be, saying he therefore had no reason to attempt to control his daughter’s life.

“My own father couldn’t stop me from becoming Charly Boy the man I wanted to become. So who am I to stand in front of my daughter and try to control the life she has chosen for herself?” he asked.

The entertainer concluded by saying that everyone should have the freedom to pursue happiness and live according to their personal choices.

“I wish her happiness. I wish everybody happiness. At the end of the day, na love remain. Make everybody live their truth and find their own happiness,” he said.
