A former adviser to ex-US President Barack Obama, Stuart Seldowitz, was arrested by the New York Police Department (NYPD) on charges of hate crime, stalking, and aggravated harassment.
Seldowitz, captured on video making Islamophobic remarks at a halal food vendor in New York City, had served as a deputy director of the US State Department’s Office of Israel and Palestinian affairs.

The video, which went viral, showed Seldowitz expressing disturbing sentiments about the death of Palestinian children in Gaza.
The incident is particularly egregious given his previous high-ranking position in the Obama Administration. Seldowitz had been harassing the 24-year-old vendor for weeks, with additional videos surfacing of him making derogatory remarks.
The xenophobic attack occurred amid heightened tensions in the Israel-Palestine conflict, contributing to increased discrimination.
Notably, Seldowitz’s verbal attacks extended beyond the vendor, as he reportedly harassed Russia’s UN ambassador, his staff, and even a pet dog for over a year, with additional footage depicting him using offensive language against Russian UN officials.
