BREAKING: Lalong Set To Quit Tinubu’s Cabinet As Minister, Tinubu Makes Appointment

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued a certificate of return to the Minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Lalong, following his victory at the Court of Appeal as the validly elected Senator for Plateau South Senatorial District.

Lalong, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the immediate-past governor of Plateau State, is set to resign from his ministerial position and assume his seat in the Senate.

He received the certificate from INEC National Commissioner, Mohammed Haruna, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Lalong expressed joy and dedicated the certificate to the people of Plateau South.

Accompanying him to collect the certificate of return were his wife, Regina, and children.

The brief ceremony was attended by notable figures, including former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Idris Wase, APC Deputy National Secretary, Festus Fuanter, Minority Leader of Plateau Assembly, Joe Bukar, and several members of the Plateau Assembly.

President Bola Tinubu has granted approval for the appointment of Ambassador Desmond Akawor as a Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation, and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The statement released on Thursday by the presidential spokesman noted that the confirmation is contingent upon the Senate’s approval.

“The new RMAFC Federal Commissioner, who represents Rivers State, is being appointed following the tragic demise of the immediate past RMAFC Federal Commissioner from Rivers State, Hon. Asondu Wenah Temple earlier this month,” the statement read.

The President encouraged the newly appointed Federal Commissioner to apply his extensive experience across different levels of government to spearhead a thorough reform of processes. The aim is to ensure the optimal and productive allocation of resources to all three tiers of government in Nigeria.

Before this recent appointment, Ambassador Akawor had held various significant roles, including serving as Nigeria’s Ambassador to South Korea and as Minister of State in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Additionally, he served as the Sole Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt Development Authority, Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta River Basin Development Authority, and Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (Engineering & Technical Services).
