How Cultists Buried Former Community Chairman Alive In Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command conducted a parade on Monday, presenting two suspected cultists, Baridapdo Igia and Elvis Gordon, from the Kereken-Boue community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The suspects are accused of kidnapping and burying alive Praise Daakian, a former Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman.

Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, disclosed during the parade that the suspects, along with their accomplices, buried the victim alive after receiving N200,000 as an initial ransom payment from the victim’s wife. The presentation included these suspects and 15 others before members of the media at the Rivers State Police Command.

He said, “Anti-Cultism Unit arrested Baridapdo Igia, 33yrs ‘m’ and Elvis Gordon, 26yrs ‘m’, two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers in Kereken-Boue community of Khana Local Government Area.  After a series of interrogations, the duo confessed to being leaders of Iceland and Degbam cult groups in Khana Local Government Area, respectively and have been terrorising Khana Local Government Area for the past three years.

“During interrogations, they also admitted to kidnapping and burying alive one Praise Daakian, a former CDC Chairman in Khana Local Government Area. They murdered the victim after collecting the sum of NGN200,000 as part of payment for his ransom from the victim’s wife.

“The duo also confessed to murdering nine other victims from 2021 to 2023 and were the main reason for the partial evacuation of the community within this same period. Investigations are still ongoing to uncover the full scale of the suspects’ operations.”

Commissioner of Police Disu mentioned that the command’s operatives, affiliated with C4i Intelligence, apprehended Emmanuel Essien and Marshal Ime. Both suspects allegedly confessed to being part of a four-man armed robbery syndicate that has been causing terror in various areas of Port Harcourt recently.

Furthermore, CP Disu highlighted that one of the suspects, Essien Emmanuel, shared with the operatives that he had previously been arrested, prosecuted, and imprisoned three times for various offenses.
