Transforming Abuja: Wike Unveils Vision Behind Capital’s Construction Boom
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has revealed the driving force behind the extensive construction activities transforming Abuja into a bustling construction site. According to Wike, President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is the catalyst propelling the rapid development initiatives, ensuring tangible improvements for residents even before the first anniversary of his administration.
Speaking after inspecting multiple ongoing projects across the city, Wike expressed satisfaction with the progress made, noting that several projects are nearing completion. Among the sites visited was an interchange in Wuye, where work is reportedly at an impressive 85% completion rate, with a commitment from contractors to deliver by the end of May.
Wike highlighted the significance of projects like the Kuje road, emphasizing their role in opening up new areas within the FCT. He commended the dedication of contractors and reiterated his administration’s commitment to preventing project abandonment, with many initiatives already included in the forthcoming statutory budget for 2024.
“By May, Nigerians will witness significant changes in the FCT. We are aggressively resurfacing roads in the city center, including Maitama, Asokoro, and Wuse, among others,” Wike stated.
Addressing the widespread construction activities transforming Abuja, Wike emphasized that it reflects the core principles of the Renewed Hope Agenda championed by President Tinubu. He underscored the administration’s determination to restore hope and instill confidence among citizens, leveraging the support provided by the federal government to drive tangible progress.
With a focus on revenue generation, Wike emphasized the transparent utilization of funds for development purposes, ensuring that taxpayers see the direct impact of their contributions. He stressed the importance of efficient tax collection, highlighting its role in fueling local development initiatives and creating visible improvements in communities.
The Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Engr. Shehu Hadi Ahmad, also provided insights into ongoing projects, including the construction of a 76-kilometer highway aimed at enhancing connectivity within the FCT.
