According to Saminu Abdullahi, the spokesperson for the service, the fire erupted at 01:37 am on Wednesday, causing extensive damage to the affected shops.

“We received a distress call at about 01:37 a.m. from one Malam Baba reporting a fire outbreak at Zuwaciki. We quickly mobilised our personnel to the scene at about 01:47 a.m. and managed to extinguish the fire to prevent it from spreading further,” Abdullahi stated.

The 37 affected shops were located on the ground level of a multi-purpose structure, with three additional shops suffering minor damage from the blaze. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties, and authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

This unfortunate incident follows a similar tragedy in Lagos State, where millions of Naira worth of goods were lost due to an early morning fire that razed shops in the Nnamdi Azikwe and Docemo areas of Idumota Market. The fire affected three buildings, including two two-storey structures and one three-storey edifice, in the renowned market known for its diverse range of clothing, bags, and shoes.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFS) confirmed the incident, stating that firefighting personnel had been dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze.

Efforts to mitigate the impact of such disasters underscore the importance of robust fire safety measures and prompt emergency response protocols in densely populated commercial areas.
