The onslaught unfolded around 3 pm on Thursday amidst the bustling community market, causing significant loss of life and property.

Eyewitness reports depicted scenes of chaos and devastation, with approximately 50 homes, several commercial establishments, and numerous vehicles and motorcycles set ablaze by the merciless attackers.

The armed bandits reportedly unleashed indiscriminate gunfire on villagers, wreaking havoc in the market and abducting an unspecified number of residents before fleeing to an undisclosed location.

Confirming the heartbreaking incident during a solemn telephone conversation with reporters, the district head, Alhaji Isah Bawale, expressed profound sorrow over the recurrence of such violence in Madaka. He recalled a similar attack years earlier that claimed the life of another district head, underscoring the community’s vulnerability to relentless banditry.

Following the previous incident, the community has reportedly grappled with a dearth of adequate security presence, leaving it exposed to the mercy of marauding bandits.

Efforts to seek clarity and reassurance from the Niger State Command of Police, through Public Relations Officer SP Wasiu Abiodun, were met with assurances of verification and follow-up. However, no definitive response has been received as of the time of this report.

Meanwhile, the Niger State Government has yet to issue a statement regarding the tragic incident, raising concerns about the efficacy of measures being implemented to safeguard vulnerable communities like Madaka from such audacious acts of violence.
