Commissioner of Police Aderemi Adeoye initiated the operation, with a directive to identify and dismantle any camps utilized by insurgents to stage attacks within the command’s jurisdiction. The raid, which targeted forests in various areas including Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA, led to the discovery of scattered insurgent camps.
During the operation, law enforcement agents recovered six improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that had been prepared for use in attacks, as well as two walkie-talkies and additional supplies. The success of the raid underscores the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to neutralize threats posed by armed insurgents and ensure the safety of residents.
The recent operation builds on previous efforts by the police to dismantle insurgent camps, with successful missions conducted in locations such as Ogbunka in Orumba South LGA and Achalla in Awka North LGA. The determined pursuit of these criminals reflects the unwavering resolve of law enforcement agencies to combat insecurity and protect communities.
SP Ikenga also highlighted ongoing efforts to rescue abducted victims and recover firearms and stolen vehicles from the possession of the insurgents. By disrupting their operations and denying them safe havens, the police are working diligently to restore peace and security to the affected areas.
The statement concluded with a firm commitment to continue proactive measures against insurgents, emphasizing the importance of collaborative efforts between security agencies and the public in combating crime and ensuring the safety of all residents in Anambra State.
