Encountering resistance from the renegade group members, the police were met with gunfire upon their arrival. However, employing superior firepower, law enforcement successfully subdued the assailants, resulting in the deaths of two individuals affiliated with the group.
DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the spokesperson for the Command, disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday that the operation took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday.
During the raid and subsequent exchange of fire, law enforcement recovered significant weaponry, including an AK-47 rifle, a Sub-Machine Gun (SMG), and a stainless Pump-Action Gun (PAG). Additionally, 27 live rounds and 23 expended rounds of 7.62 mm caliber ammunition were seized.
Furthermore, police confiscated five live cartridges and a small blue-colored Gideon New Testament Bible suspected of being utilized to conceal potentially incriminating items.
Ndukwe emphasized that the raid was conducted as part of proactive crime prevention strategies devised by the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu. The recovered AK-47 bore wiped-off breech numbers, indicating attempts to conceal its origin.
The spokesperson noted ongoing investigations into the activities of the criminal elements involved in several attacks and the theft of police officers’ rifles, as evidenced by the discovery of a rifle magazine bearing the Nigeria Police Force’s color.
As law enforcement continues its diligent efforts to maintain peace and security within the region, further discreet inquiries are underway to apprehend any additional perpetrators and ensure justice prevails.
