Bobrisky had earlier pleaded guilty to the charge of abusing the naira brought against him by the EFCC. He expressed ignorance of the law regarding naira abuse and requested permission to use his platform to educate the public, but Justice Awogboro dismissed his request, asserting that ignorance of the law is not an excuse.
Originally facing a six-count charge, two charges were dropped following discussions between the parties involved. The remaining charges against Bobrisky include tampering with sums of money at various social events and failure to declare the activities of his company, Bob Express, to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering.
The charges against Bobrisky are as follows:
- Tampering with the sum of N400,000 by spraying it while dancing at a social event at the IMAX Circle Mall, Lekki, Lagos.
- Tampering with another sum of N50,000 by spraying it at a social event at Aja Junction, Ikorodu, between July and August 2023.
- Tampering with another sum of N20,000 by spraying it at a social event at White Steve Event Hall, Ikeja, in December 2023.
- Tampering with another sum of N20,000 by spraying it at an event in Oniru, Victoria Island.
- Failing to submit a declaration of the activities of Bob Express to the Special Control Unit Against Money Laundering, despite receiving payments totaling N127.7 million into the company’s account.
- Failing to submit a declaration of the activities of Bob Express when another N53 million was paid into the company’s account between September 2021 and April 2024.
The sentencing on April 9 will determine the consequences Bobrisky will face for the charges against him.
