Accompanied by his co-defendant, Henry Isioma Omole, Emefiele appeared before Justice Rahman Oshodi, who commenced proceedings at 9 am.

Both defendants faced a 26-count charge, which they denied.

According to the charge sheet dated April 3, 2024, and referenced ID/23787c/2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused Emefiele of abusing his authority in Lagos between 2022 and 2023.

The commission alleged that Emefiele directed the allocation of foreign exchange totaling $2,136,391,737.33 without bids, an action deemed prejudicial to the rights of Nigerians.
