Tinubu Administration Signals Restart Of Suspended Social Investment Programs

The Federal Government led by Bola Tinubu has announced intentions to recommence the social intervention programs managed by the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA). The decision comes after President Tinubu suspended all NSIPA-administered programs for six weeks starting January 12, citing alleged mismanagement within the agency and its initiatives. Tinubu had earlier suspended Halima Shehu, the Chief Executive Officer of NSIPA, on January 2, over accusations of financial misconduct. Additionally, Minister Betta Edu of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation was suspended on January 8.

The affected programs include N-Power, Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme, and the Home-grown School Feeding Initiative.

Idris disclosed that a committee appointed by President Tinubu to review the operational structure of these programs has submitted its report, clearing the path for their resumption. However, the minister did not specify the exact timeline for the recommencement of the suspended initiatives.

Furthermore, Idris announced that 15 million vulnerable households would receive N25,000 in conditional cash transfers for three months, among other intervention measures.
