In his announcement, Onakoya emphasized the purpose behind the marathon, highlighting a fundraising goal aimed at supporting the education of African children worldwide. He rallied support, urging participants to demonstrate the power of love in making a positive impact.

The ongoing challenge, hosted in New York City’s iconic Times Square, has already exceeded 56 hours and a few minutes, placing Onakoya ahead of the previous record holders. His motivation stems from a desire to raise funds and awareness for providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children across Africa.

Onakoya’s foundation, Chess in Slums Africa, revealed that the record attempt involves a team of two players, with Onakoya facing off against his US counterpart, Shawn Martinez. Both players hold the title of National Masters, with Martinez adding a formidable challenge to the marathon.

The record-setting endeavor, focused on continuous chess play, underscores the determination of Onakoya and Martinez to push the boundaries of achievement while supporting a noble cause. Martinez joined the marathon approximately 23 hours into the game, contributing to the new world record.
