He lamented that developmental issues often take a backseat during constitutional reviews due to the overriding interests of political leaders. Sani highlighted electoral reform as a crucial area where progress is stymied, noting that incumbent presidents are reluctant to implement changes that could jeopardize their hold on power.

Urging political leaders to prioritize reforms that transcend their tenure, Sani emphasized the transient nature of power. He emphasized that despite the consistent inauguration of committees for constitutional amendments since 1999, the recommendations are seldom implemented due to vested interests.

Sani’s remarks underscore the ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s constitutional review process, where entrenched political interests often impede substantive reforms.
