The incident occurred after an unspecified number of undergraduates were abducted by gunmen from the school premises last Thursday, amidst a terrifying onslaught.

According to a statement released on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, SP William Ovye, the rescue operation was executed with precision by tactical teams from the command, including operatives of the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, and personnel from the 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lokoja. Additionally, officers from the Department of State Services, local hunters, and vigilantes joined forces to combat the abductors.

The operation, characterized by a fierce gun battle, led to the liberation of 14 victims from a bush near Obajana. The abductors, overwhelmed by the combined strength of the security team, fled, abandoning some of the captives.

Efforts are currently underway to locate and rescue the remaining missing students, while the security apparatus remains vigilant to ensure the apprehension of the perpetrators and their just prosecution.

The Kogi State Government and the university community have expressed their gratitude and commendation to the joint security team for their resolute efforts in ensuring the safe return of the abducted students.
