Reportedly, more than 500 unauthorized structures and shanties lining the road corridor have been earmarked for demolition.

Mr. Garba Jibril, Sector Monitor and Assistant Director in the department, led the operation in Abuja on Monday, revealing that multiple prior notices had been issued to the affected owners.

Jibril emphasized that the Director of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, had engaged in a sensitization meeting with key stakeholders to address the situation.

He underscored the necessity of removing these structures, citing their obstruction to traffic flow and the environmental hazards they pose to the area, which is against the stance of the FCT Administration.

Furthermore, Jibril disclosed that a contract had been awarded for the construction of the Life Camp–Dei-Dei Road, but the traders’ presence along the corridor was impeding progress.

He reiterated the seriousness of the 24-hour notice, cautioning that non-compliance would result in consequences.

Additionally, Jibril mentioned that the traders had been instructed to relocate to the designated Karmo Market, which is fully developed and equipped.

Despite efforts to facilitate this transition, including meetings with relevant stakeholders and traditional leaders, the traders have remained resistant, Jibril lamented.
