During a visit by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to Abuja on Friday, Wike acknowledged the relentless efforts of the Nigerian military in safeguarding the nation’s security. He pledged the FCTA’s assistance to enhance security measures and uphold Nigeria’s territorial integrity.
“Do not hesitate to tell us whatever support you need from the FCT,” Wike assured Musa, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the FCT Administration and security agencies.
Highlighting recent developments, Wike mentioned the passage of the 2024 FCT Statutory Budget by the National Assembly, with provisions allocated for the procurement of drones to aid security agencies. These drones, he noted, would bolster efforts to combat various forms of insecurity, particularly within the FCT.
Additionally, Wike revealed plans to provide logistics support, including patrol vehicles and communication gadgets, to security agencies. He also outlined the establishment of an FCT Rapid Response Centre, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and managed jointly by military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel.
Expressing condolences to the families of fallen Nigerian military personnel, Wike condemned the recent incident in Delta state and pledged support to alleviate their suffering.
In response, the Chief of Defence Staff commended Wike for the positive transformation witnessed in the FCT under his leadership. He assured the minister of the Armed Forces’ support and reiterated their commitment to protecting Nigerians and defending the nation’s sovereignty while upholding citizens’ rights.
Addressing prevalent security challenges such as “one chance” crimes and kidnappings, Musa disclosed the establishment of a committee to enhance the ongoing response efforts. He pledged support to the Nigerian Police Force with ground and air troops to maintain peace and curb criminal activities.
Musa emphasized the importance of building a responsive force available 24/7 to provide additional support to the police whenever necessary.
