Alake made this statement via his official communication channel on Thursday, following a meeting with the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRasak Abdulrahman. He emphasized the crucial role that sub-national entities must play in tapping into the country’s mining sector resources.

“I emphasized the federal government’s commitment to collaborating with states to boost the mining sector,” Alake stated. “Solid minerals are governed by the exclusive legislative list, requiring states to seek approval from the Ministry before enacting policies on mining within their territories.”

Alake encouraged state governors to apply for mining licenses, positioning themselves as key stakeholders in the industry to drive revenue generation and environmental conservation efforts.

He also highlighted the establishment of the Mineral Resources and Environmental Management Committee (MIREMCO), which includes significant state representation, as a crucial step toward effective management of mining activities.

In conclusion, Alake affirmed the agreement to strengthen engagement and develop a cooperative strategy aimed at overcoming obstacles hindering progress in the mining sector.
