Breaking: Military-Forces Block Access To Nasarawa Palace After Tensions In Kano
Police officers and soldiers have sealed off access to the street leading to the Nasarawa palace, where the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Bayero, is currently residing. The area is heavily guarded, with all surrounding streets blocked, as reported by TheCable.
Ireporteronline confirms that the Kano State High Court, on Monday, issued an order restraining the newly ousted Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four others from presenting themselves as monarchs in the state. Justice Aisha Adamu Aliyu granted the order following an ex parte motion filed by the state government.
The court also prohibited all dethroned Emirs from performing their official duties and instructed them to vacate their palaces immediately. Additionally, the Commissioner of Police in Kano was directed to assume control of the palace currently occupied by Ado Bayero and to promptly remove the former Emir.
The recent legal action comes after the Kano state House of Assembly amended a 2019 law that facilitated the removal of Muhammadu Sanusi as Emir. The legislation had divided the emirate into Bichi, Rano, Karaye, Kano, and Gaya, resulting in the dismissal of all Emirs.
Despite directives from the governor, Bayero has not left his palace, leading to heightened tensions in Kano since Muhammadu Sanusi’s reinstatement as Emir last Friday. Supporters of Bayero staged protests across the city on Sunday, underscoring the brewing unrest in the region.
