in Abuja on Thursday, Obaseki said he had received information indicating the EFCC’s plan to detain him over alleged fraud. He dismissed the threat, attributing it to individuals with personal vendettas.

Obaseki asserted his readiness for any investigation, emphasizing that he has “nothing to hide” and would even use his time in EFCC custody for research purposes.

“I hear the EFCC plans to pick me up next week after my tenure ends,” he remarked. “Wherever they keep me, I’ll spend my time researching.”

Highlighting his administration’s achievements, which he referred to as “legacy projects,” Obaseki stated his focus has always been on the welfare of Edo State’s people. He accused political opponents of attempting to tarnish his legacy, driven by envy over his administration’s progress.

“I’m not afraid or worried,” he added. “There are baseless petitions against me, and if they want me to turn myself in, I will. I have nothing to hide.”

Obaseki pointed out that his opponents’ hostility stems from a combination of jealousy and bitterness over the accomplishments of his eight-year administration, especially in comparison to theirs.

“What matters is to focus on the people,” he said. “Our goal should be improving Nigeria, not pursuing vendettas. Reforming the bureaucracy was essential, and our focus was always on the people and civil servants.”

Following the September 2024 governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress as the winner, with 291,667 votes, beating the People’s Democratic Party’s Asue Ighodalo and Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata.
