A New Edo Is Rising: Gov Okpebholo Targets Crime And Development

criminals will not escape justice or disrupt the relative tranquility of Edo State.
Speaking on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed officials at the Government House in Benin City, Governor Okpebholo emphasized his commitment to ensuring security, improving education, and enhancing financial management in the state.
The event saw Emmanuel Okoebor assume the role of Commissioner for Finance, Paddy Iyamu as Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and retired Commissioner of Police Friday Ibadin as Coordinator of the Edo Security Network.
Governor Okpebholo charged the appointees to prioritize Edo State’s progress in their roles, urging them to uplift the state through education reform, bolstered security, and prudent financial management.
“You are here because of trust and the critical task ahead of you. Edo State must come first in all your endeavors,” the Governor stated. He expressed confidence in their abilities, particularly highlighting their experience and dedication as assets for driving development.
On education, the Governor urged Iyamu to leverage state resources to rebuild the education system, stating, “A new Edo is rising, and now is the time to show it.”
For security, he described retired CP Ibadin as a seasoned professional, adding, “It is time to chase criminals out of our land and ensure the safety of our people.”
Addressing the new Commissioner for Finance, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the need for Okoebor’s banking expertise to manage the state treasury effectively. “You know the job; bring your experience to safeguard Edo State’s resources for development,” he said.
In his response on behalf of the appointees, Okoebor assured the Governor and the people of Edo State of their commitment to achieving the administration’s five-point development agenda.
The swearing-in ceremony, held at the New Festival Hall, was attended by prominent figures, including Deputy Governor Hon. Dennis Idahosa, Secretary to the State Government Barr. Musa Ikhilor, Chief of Staff Gani Audu, Head of Service Dr. Anthony Okungbowa, and several others.
