Edo State Revives Security Force Amid Rising Tensions – New Chapter Begins

A statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, emphasized that this decision was part of the state’s efforts to enhance security and public safety. The Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, had initially suspended the security outfit in line with constitutional provisions that allocate election security responsibilities to the Nigeria Police Force, with support from other agencies in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

Following the successful completion of the gubernatorial elections, the Edo State Government has decided to reinstate the security force. This reinstatement aims to reinforce the state’s security infrastructure for the protection of its citizens.

The statement further clarified that all returning officers in the corps are to report to their designated offices for a seamless transition and efficient deployment. The Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ikilor, reassured the public of the administration’s commitment to ensuring their safety and security.
