Lawmakers Take Action Against Unlicensed Cooking Gas Outlets In Kano

This move follows a report presented by the committee on special duties during a plenary session led by Speaker Hon. Ismail Falgore. The committee’s chairman, Abdullahi Yahaya of Gezawa constituency, revealed findings from the Kano State Fire Service Directorate that identified 475 illegal cooking gas outlets. Similarly, the Nigerian Mainstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) reported 234 unlicensed gas retailers in the state.

The investigation, sparked by a motion from Hon. Tasiu Abubakar of Kiru constituency, highlighted the dangers of unregulated gas sales and emphasized the need for robust guidelines to safeguard lives and property.

The committee proposed relocating gas marketers to designated sites at the six major entry points to Kano’s metropolitan area: Hadeja Road, Maiduguri Road, Zaria Road, Madobi Road, Gwarzo Road, and Katsina Road.

With the House’s approval, Hon. Abubakar urged lawmakers to annul the outdated Fire Agency Edict and implement necessary measures to streamline gas sale operations while ensuring public safety. The motion received strong support, including from Hon. Salisu Mohammed of Doguwa constituency.
