Chaos In Ekiti: Police Arrest Six Amid Violent Clash

Tension escalated in Atikankan, Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, following a violent clash involving suspected members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and motorcycle riders. The altercation, which took place on Thursday morning, appears to have been sparked by the death of a motorcycle ticketing officer and underlying criminal activities.

The swift intervention of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command helped restore order. Sources report that during the confrontation, weapons such as cutlasses and knives were brandished by the opposing groups.

One eyewitness, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, shared, “The motorcycle riders accuse the OPC of being responsible for the death of a ticketing officer stationed at their office. This is what triggered the crisis.”

The command’s spokesperson, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident in a message, revealing that a distress call was received around 11:20 AM regarding the attack and robbery in the area. Six suspects have been arrested, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional members of the gang.

This clash follows recent tensions in the region, with security forces working tirelessly to maintain peace and prevent further escalation.
