Service Commission (TSC).

Naija News reports that Governor Sule revealed that 80% of the teachers recruited were unable to write acceptance letters, despite some paying as much as ₦700,000 for positions that would only offer a salary of less than ₦100,000.

During a recent meeting with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Lafia, the Governor expressed his distress over the situation, noting the detrimental impact on the state’s educational system.

New Recruitment Exercise to Address Issues
Governor Sule explained that his administration has set up a committee to revamp the state’s education sector, implementing recommendations for infrastructure and learning resources. He emphasized that the recruitment of teachers will be merit-based to ensure the quality of education.

He stated, “I don’t want to destroy our educational system by absorbing teachers who are not qualified. The goal is to have a competent workforce that can teach in villages and contribute to educational reform.”

Additionally, Governor Sule highlighted that many of the recruited teachers have refused postings to rural areas, limiting the reach of education in underserved regions.

Promoting Standard Education
The APC Governor urged CAN to support his initiative for standard education, promising that a new recruitment exercise will be organized with a focus on merit. “We cannot allow this system to continue if we are serious about educational reform,” he said.

The Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum further emphasized the importance of having teachers who are committed and capable of teaching in rural areas, stressing that any deviation will hinder progress.
