Salah, who has been in outstanding form this season, is set to become a free agent in June, fueling speculation about a potential move to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, hinted at the country’s strong interest in the Egyptian star during an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored, saying,

“Definitely, because if he ticks all the right boxes, we’d love to have him. We share a deep cultural and historical bond with Egypt.”

Despite leading the Premier League scoring charts with 19 goals this season, Salah admitted in December that he was still “far away” from reaching a new agreement with Liverpool.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Slot reaffirmed the club’s desire to keep their star forward, who has been a key figure since joining in 2017.

“Of course, we want him to extend his contract. That’s clear. But I’m not surprised Saudi Arabia is interested—many clubs would want a player of his caliber,” Slot stated.

While acknowledging Salah’s experience in making career decisions, Slot hinted that his own advice would differ from the allure of the Middle East.

“He has managed his career exceptionally well without my input, so he knows what’s best for him. But if I were to advise him, it wouldn’t be in favor of the move you mentioned.”

Liverpool faces contract dilemmas beyond Salah, with key players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also approaching the end of their deals.

As the Premier League leaders prepare to take on Bournemouth, Slot admitted it would be “ridiculous” not to discuss the future with his players but declined to disclose details on contract negotiations.
