The 10th Senate, led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has commenced discussions on the ₦54 trillion 2025 Appropriation Bill, marking a crucial step in shaping Nigeria’s fiscal direction.

Presiding over the plenary, Senator Barau Jibrin urged lawmakers to fast-track their review while ensuring a comprehensive analysis to facilitate timely passage.

The Senate will now undertake a clause-by-clause assessment of the proposed allocations, with debates anticipated on key sectors such as education, healthcare, security, and infrastructure.

In a related development, the House of Representatives has approved a ₦54.9 trillion national budget for 2025, following the presentation of the Appropriations Committee report.

The breakdown of the budget includes ₦3.6 trillion for statutory transfers, ₦14.3 trillion for debt servicing, ₦13.6 trillion for recurrent (non-debt) expenditures, and ₦23.9 trillion for capital projects.

This approved figure exceeds the initial ₦49.7 trillion proposal submitted by President Bola Tinubu in December 2024 by approximately ₦7 billion.
