NNPCL vs. Dangote: Explosive Showdown Over Alleged Low-Quality Fuel

The dispute over fuel quality in Nigeria has intensified as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery engage in a war of words regarding claims of substandard petrol.…..READ MORE

Dangote Refinery has refuted allegations that a particular batch of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in question originated from its facility. The controversy gained momentum after a viral video surfaced online, showing a content creator comparing fuel efficiency from different stations.

In response to the video, NNPCL dismissed the claims, labeling them as unverified and misleading. The corporation emphasized that its fuel meets high industry standards and assured consumers of its quality.

“The NNPC Ltd strongly refutes the false allegations circulating online that suggest our fuel burns faster. These claims are baseless and lack scientific validation,” stated NNPCL spokesperson Olufemi Soneye.

NNPCL also clarified that a significant portion of the PMS sold at its Lagos stations is sourced from Dangote Refinery, which adheres to strict industry standards. The company warned that legal action would be taken against individuals spreading false information.

Despite NNPCL’s clarification, Dangote Refinery officials expressed concern over being linked to the controversy.

“It’s well known that our PMS quality is superior. Why then is NNPCL subtly dragging us into this issue?” questioned an anonymous refinery official.

Another source suggested that NNPCL might be trying to shift focus from its own fuel importation practices.

“The NNPCL should clarify its own operations rather than create unnecessary controversy. Nigerians can attest to the quality of our fuel,” the official added.

The ongoing dispute underscores the growing scrutiny of Nigeria’s fuel industry, as both NNPCL and Dangote Refinery seek to defend their reputations.
