Senate Unleashes Fury: CBN, NNPCL Chiefs, IGP Could Be Arrested For Ignoring Audit Summons
The Senate Public Accounts Committee (SPAC) has warned of possible arrest warrants for top government officials, including Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, Central Bank Governor Yemi Cardoso, and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) CEO Mele Kyari, over their repeated failure to respond to audit queries.…..READ MORE
Also under threat are Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Chairman Zacch Adedeji and Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Comptroller-General Adewale Adeniyi, alongside other prominent figures.
SPAC Chairman, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, expressed frustration over the officials’ disregard for multiple invitations, deeming their actions disrespectful to both the National Assembly and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Wadada emphasized, “Nobody is above the law. If President Tinubu can prioritize attending the National Assembly to present the budget, then no appointee should be too important to appear before the people’s parliament.”
He warned that continued non-compliance would result in arrest warrants, and called for the dismissal of any official who fails to heed future summons.
Wadada also condemned the FIRS for ignoring over eight invitations, criticized NNPCL for not accounting for public funds, and raised concerns about Customs’ financial irregularities. Meanwhile, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has been avoiding inquiries regarding its ‘Ways and Means’ expenditures, drawing suspicion.
The Senate vowed to take stringent action against any further defiance, with a clear message that such officials are not aligned with the vision of President Tinubu.
