Nigeria’s Fuel Controversy: CSO Blows Whistle On NNPCL’s Hidden Fuel Imports

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the group’s convener, Isijola Shola, accused the NNPCL of failing to uphold its promise, alleging that at least 489,065 metric tonnes of petrol and diesel were imported in January 2025, with NNPCL responsible for 72.25% of the volume.

The organization urged President Bola Tinubu to initiate an independent investigation into the NNPCL’s activities.

Shola stated: “Ordinarily, we would ask Mele Kyari and the NNPCL to explain the surge in fuel imports while they claim to have boosted local refining capacity. However, we know such demands will likely be met with indifference or more deception. We have lost confidence in the NNPCL’s leadership to act in the best interest of Nigerians.”

He further called on President Tinubu to safeguard his administration’s integrity and not allow the alleged actions of an inherited appointee to undermine his economic reforms.
