Bwala: Peter Obi Introduced A Dangerous Trend In Nigerian Politics

The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, Daniel Bwala, has accused the 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, of introducing what he described as a dangerous trend into Nigeria’s political environment.

According to Ireporter Online, Bwala made the remarks during an appearance on TVC’s Politics programme on Sunday while responding to questions about his repeated criticism of the former Anambra State governor.

During the interview, the presidential aide alleged that Obi had cultivated a political movement he believes reflects political extremism. He further claimed that the former governor has consistently failed to take responsibility for the actions and conduct of some of his supporters.

Bwala argued that certain members of the Obidient movement had displayed intolerant behaviour, citing an incident involving a supporter who reportedly faced criticism on social media after meeting President Bola Tinubu’s son, Seyi Tinubu.

According to him, the reaction to the meeting demonstrated what he described as political extremism. He further alleged that when Peter Obi later met with the individual, the former presidential candidate attributed the online criticism to political opponents instead of acknowledging the actions of some of his supporters.

The presidential spokesman also dismissed suggestions that he is obsessed with criticising Obi, explaining that his responses are usually prompted by comments made by Obi’s supporters or requests from media organisations seeking the presidency’s position on political issues.

Bwala further maintained that Peter Obi does not represent a significant political challenge to President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, expressing confidence in the President’s political strength and electoral prospects.

He also argued that former governors of Lagos State recorded stronger governance achievements than Obi, insisting that the NDC presidential candidate is not comparable to President Tinubu in terms of political experience and performance.

The presidential aide concluded by reiterating his allegation that Peter Obi has repeatedly distanced himself from controversial actions attributed to some of his supporters rather than publicly accepting responsibility for their conduct.
