FG Rejects Terror Attack Claim On Borno Girls’ School, Counters Military Report

The Federal Government has dismissed reports alleging that terrorists attacked the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State, describing the claims as false and misleading.

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Ministry of Education, in a statement issued on Monday, insisted that no attack occurred at the school and assured parents, guardians, and the public that the institution remains safe and secure.

The statement, signed by the Ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, explained that all students, staff members, and boarding facilities at the college were fully protected and accounted for.

The government’s clarification followed an earlier statement by the Acting Military Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Mohammed Goni, who claimed that troops, alongside personnel of the Nigeria Police Mobile Force, had prevented an attempted mass abduction by suspected ISWAP terrorists at the school.

The military had alleged that the attackers gained access to the facility through the assistance of suspected collaborators and attempted to abduct students. It further stated that 46 students were rescued and evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno for medical checks and care.

The military also reported that some students sustained fatal injuries during an exchange of fire between troops and the fleeing attackers, with videos circulating online showing individuals who claimed to have been rescued during the operation.

However, the Ministry of Education rejected the claims, maintaining that FGGC Monguno was never attacked and that activities at the school continued without disruption.

The Ministry described the reports circulating on social media as irresponsible and capable of creating unnecessary panic and anxiety among families and the general public.

Education Minister Tunji Alausa reaffirmed that the safety and welfare of students in all Federal Government Colleges remain a top priority of the administration, adding that FGGC Monguno operates under strong security measures.

Alausa also clarified that no student of the college was involved in the incident being discussed online, explaining that those affected were remedial students outside the institution, while authorities were already taking steps to ensure their protection.

The Ministry warned against the spread of unverified information, noting that false reports could undermine public confidence and disrupt efforts aimed at maintaining safe learning environments across the country.

It urged parents and guardians to remain calm, assuring Nigerians that it would continue collaborating with security agencies, state authorities, and school managements to protect students nationwide.
