Ganduje: Atiku, Obi Lack Support To Defeat Tinubu In 2027
The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has expressed doubts over the ability of opposition figures Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar to defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
According to Ireporter Online, Ganduje made the remarks during a public event in Kano, where he assessed the political strength of opposition parties and their chances ahead of the next general election.
The former APC chairman argued that Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) lack the grassroots network and regional influence required to secure enough support, particularly in the Northern region.
Ganduje described the North as a crucial factor in Nigeria’s presidential elections, insisting that any candidate seeking victory must have a strong presence and acceptance in the region.
He stated that, despite respecting opposition politicians, neither Obi nor Atiku currently possesses the political structure needed to mobilise sufficient support in the North to challenge President Tinubu in 2027.
The former APC national chairman also expressed concern over the increasing number of political parties in Nigeria, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to introduce stricter requirements for the registration of new parties.
According to Ganduje, only political parties with strong structures, defined ideologies and nationwide representation should be allowed to participate in the country’s electoral process.
His comments come amid continued political alignments and consultations among major political actors as parties prepare for the 2027 general election.
