Nigerians have taken to social media to mourn the reported death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.

The 66-year-old Yoruba movie star reportedly died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a battle with cancer.

According to IREPORTERONLINE, news of the actor’s death was first circulated online after actress Regina Chikwu shared a post about the development. A video of Ogogo’s daughter, Kira Hassan, also surfaced online, with the actress confirming her father’s passing during a TikTok live session.

Ogogo’s reported death came days after his family publicly appealed for assistance over his deteriorating health. His daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo, had appealed to Nigerians, medical professionals and hospitals capable of providing specialised treatment to assist their father, who was reportedly battling stage-four cancer.

The actor’s health condition had generated widespread concern, with several colleagues and prominent figures in the Yoruba movie industry rallying around him and his family.

Veteran actors including Jide Kosoko, Yinka Quadri, Antar Laniyan, Bukky Wright, Wale Elesho, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Fausat Balogun, popularly known as Madam Saje, and Bolaji Amusan, also known as Mr Latin, had gathered in Lagos for a prayer session seeking his recovery.

Following the news of his reported passing, fans, colleagues and other Nigerians flooded social media with tributes, describing Ogogo as a legendary figure whose contribution to Yoruba cinema left a lasting impact.

Many recalled his memorable performances and the influence he had on generations of movie lovers, while others expressed shock that his death came shortly after public appeals and prayers for his recovery.
