Abia State governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Doris Ogala, has criticised former Anambra State governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, saying she does not consider him a strong leader.

Ogala made the remarks during an appearance on The Clarity Zone Podcast, where she explained why she chose to contest under the AAC ahead of the 2027 general elections rather than support Obi and the NDC.

The AAC candidate said her decision was influenced by her personal assessment of Obi’s political style and activities, which she described as more of a performance than genuine leadership.

According to Ogala, she is also unconvinced that Obi would be capable of protecting Nigerians’ votes or defending the mandate of the electorate if elected president.

She maintained that the ability to safeguard the people’s mandate is an important quality she expects from anyone seeking to lead Nigeria.

Ogala said, “I see Peter Obi as an actor. Everything he does is acting for me. I don’t see leadership in Obi. I don’t feel it. I don’t see him as someone who can defend my vote, who can protect Nigerian votes.”

Explaining her decision to join the AAC, she said the party’s manifesto appealed to her, particularly its positions on women’s participation in governance and access to education for children.

She added, “I joined AAC because I looked at their manifesto. They believe in women inclusion, they believe in every child going to school.”

Her comments are expected to generate further debate within Nigeria’s opposition political space as parties and political figures position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
