The All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Oyewole Mayowa Solomon, has reportedly died after collapsing during a party reconciliation meeting in Iyara, the council headquarters.

According to reports, Solomon suddenly slumped on Friday while participating in a meeting convened by a former Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Funsho Olumoko. The meeting was organised as part of efforts to resolve internal disagreements within the party and strengthen unity among APC stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sources said the incident caused confusion among participants as efforts were immediately made to revive the APC chairman. He was subsequently rushed to a hospital in Kabba for medical attention but reportedly died shortly after arriving at the facility.

The circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately clear at the time of reporting.

The reconciliation meeting was part of ongoing efforts by APC leaders and stakeholders in Ijumu to address differences within the party and present a united front ahead of the 2027 elections.

Earlier in August, APC stakeholders in the local government had gathered in Iyara and endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo for re-election.

The stakeholders also appealed for greater unity among party members. However, the earlier meeting reportedly witnessed disagreements over the leadership of the local government, with Solomon and some other party officials said to have left the gathering.

The latest development has reportedly cast a sombre mood over the APC in Ijumu Local Government Area as party members and stakeholders await further details regarding the death of the chairman.
